Peter Michael Goetz

Peter Michael Goetz is an American actor born on December 10, 1941, in Buffalo, New York. His father, Irving A. Goetz, worked as a construction engineer, and his mother was Esther L. Goetz. He pursued his education at the State University of New York at Fredonia, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and the University of Minnesota, from which he earned his degree.

Following his graduation, Goetz joined the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where he built an extensive stage career spanning four decades. His work there encompassed a wide range of productions, including Death of a Salesman, All My Sons, A Moon for the Misbegotten, The National Health, An Enemy of the People, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Matchmaker, Arsenic and Old Lace, Waiting for Godot, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew.

Goetz made his Broadway debut in 1981, playing John Barrymore in Ned and Jack, a production directed by Colleen Dewhurst that closed on its opening night. His Broadway career continued through 2000 and included appearances in Beyond Therapy, The Queen and the Rebels, The Inspector General, and additional New York credits such as Brighton Beach Memoirs and The Last Night of Ballyhoo. His off-Broadway work includes The Jail Diary of Albie Sachs and Alan Ayckbourn's Comic Potential, as well as productions of Macbeth.

Goetz has also maintained a substantial presence in film and television. His feature film credits include Wolfen, Prince of the City, The World According to Garp, Glory, Father of the Bride, My Girl, Dad, Jumpin' Jack Flash, King Kong Lives, and The Empty Mirror. On television, he has appeared in AfterMASH, Lou Grant, St. Elsewhere, The Facts of Life, Simon & Simon, Matlock, The Golden Girls, L.A. Law, The Cavanaughs, Twin Peaks, Picket Fences, Touched by an Angel, The Practice, The West Wing, Gilmore Girls, Without a Trace, and Arrested Development, among numerous television films and miniseries.

Goetz married Constance Fleurat in 1966. They have two sons.
