About
Peter-Hugo Daly is a British actor and musician born in 1956 in Islington, London, whose career has spanned theatre, film, and television across several decades. He made his Broadway appearance in 1989 in The Merchant of Venice.
Before establishing himself as a screen actor, Daly was active in both music and theatre. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was a member of the new wave band the Cross alongside fellow actor Phil Daniels, releasing the single "Kill Another Night" on RCA Records in 1979. His stage work during this period included the role of Kid in Strawberry Fields at the Royal National Theatre in 1977, as well as appearances in Saved at the Royal Court Theatre, Class Enemy, and Crass in The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.
In 1980, Daly appeared in the Hazel O'Connor film Breaking Glass, playing drummer Mick "Lethal" alongside Phil Daniels. Subsequent film roles included parts in Julien Temple's Absolute Beginners, Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, in which he played a One-Armed Priest, Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream, and Made in Dagenham. He also appeared in two installments of the Sharpe television film series, taking a role in Sharpe's Gold in 1995 and playing Sergeant Shadrach Bickerstaff in Sharpe's Challenge in 2006.
Daly's television work has been extensive, encompassing a wide range of British productions including Minder, Bergerac, The Bill, Birds of a Feather, Foyle's War, Martin Chuzzlewit, Silent Witness, New Tricks, Midsomer Murders, Between the Lines, Little Dorrit, The History Man, Lark Rise to Candleford, and Alan Bleasdale's G.B.H. He also portrayed Dave Morris in McLibel!.
