Peter Gervaise Joseph Eyre is an American-English actor born on March 11, 1942, in New York City. His father, Edward Joseph Eyre, worked as a banker, and his mother was Dorothy Pelline, née Acton. At the age of 12, Eyre was sent to a public school in England, a move that established the country as his long-term base.
At 18, Eyre was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, but he chose instead to pursue his acting training in Paris. His professional stage debut came through the Old Vic, and his theatre career went on to include work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Old Vic Theatre Company.
Eyre's Broadway career spanned two decades, from 1995 to 2015. His credits on Broadway include a production of Hamlet as well as Wolf Hall Parts One & Two, the latter a stage adaptation drawn from Hilary Mantel's novels about the Tudor court.
