About

Edward Percy Parsons, born on 12 June 1878 and died on 3 October 1944, was an American actor and singer whose career spanned both the Broadway stage and the British film industry.

Parsons established his stage presence in New York during the first two decades of the twentieth century, appearing on Broadway between 1906 and 1917. His theatrical credits included the musical When Johnny Comes Marching Home, as well as End of the World, Tom Jones, and The Student King.

Although his early career was rooted in American theater, Parsons became a prominent figure in British cinema, contributing to a substantial number of film productions over more than a decade. His screen work began in 1930 with appearances in Suspense and Beyond the Cities. Throughout the early 1930s he appeared in a succession of British productions, among them Creeping Shadows, Strictly Business, Sleepless Nights, Happy Ever After, The Man from Toronto, This Is the Life, and Red Wagon. His film work continued steadily through the mid-decade with credits including Red Ensign, Princess Charming, My Heart is Calling, The Big Splash, and Rhodes of Africa, all released between 1934 and 1936. In 1936 alone he appeared in The Gay Adventure, Twelve Good Men, and Strangers on Honeymoon. Parsons remained active in British film into the late 1930s and early 1940s, with roles in Victoria the Great, Non-Stop New York, The Song of the Road, Said O'Reilly to McNab, Blondes for Danger, The Four Just Men, Hi Gang, and They Flew Alone, the last two released in 1942.
