Percy Haswell

Percy Haswell (April 30, 1871 – June 24, 1945) was an American stage and film actress born in Austin, Texas, to George Tyler Haswell, a politician and businessman, and Caroline Dalton. She received her education in Washington, D.C., and made her first stage appearance as a child in March 1885. Early in her career she performed with the Lafayette Square Theatre in Washington and appeared at Augustin Daly's Theatre in New York City. Her stage work extended across multiple cities, including Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, and Toronto, before she made her Broadway debut in 1898, a career she continued on that stage through 1932.

On June 2, 1895, Haswell married fellow actor George Fawcett in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In 1901 she established the Percy Haswell Stock Company in Baltimore, though the company later became a constituent part of the George Fawcett Stock Company. In August 1903 she served as leading lady at Denver's Elitch Theatre, appearing in four weekly productions alongside leading man Robert Drouet.

Among her Broadway credits, Haswell starred in The Watcher and appeared in Peacock, Scaramouche, and The Complex. In 1925 she directed The Complex on Broadway. She also appeared in two films, one released in 1919 and another in 1929, the latter of which featured her husband as well. She was frequently billed as Miss Percy Haswell or Mrs. George Fawcett to clarify her gender. Haswell died at age 74 in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on June 24, 1945, and was survived by one daughter.
