About

Peggy Simpson (4 July 1913 – 1 January 1994) was a British actress born in Leeds, England. Her career spanned several decades, encompassing work in British cinema and a Broadway appearance in the United States.

Simpson began accumulating film credits in the early 1930s, with uncredited appearances in Sleeping Car (1933) and My Old Dutch (1934). Her early credited roles included a Tourist in The Camels Are Coming (1934), Piri in Temptation (1934), and a Maid in Fighting Stock (1935).

Her most prominent film work came through two collaborations with director Alfred Hitchcock. She played a Maid in The 39 Steps (1935) and appeared in an uncredited role as Alice, a bathing girl, in Young and Innocent (1937). Additional film roles during the mid-1930s included Mizi in Everything Is Thunder (1936), Barbara Stubbins in Where There's a Will (1936), a Typist in Jack of All Trades (1936), and the title role of Joan Templeton in Darby and Joan (1937).

In 1938, Simpson made her Broadway appearance in Bachelor Born. She returned to British film work decades later, taking the role of Miss Brent in Dentist in the Chair (1960) and the role of Mother of Angus in No Kidding (1960), the latter marking her final screen credit.
