About
Margaret "Peg" Hillias was born on June 24, 1914, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and went on to build a career as an actress across stage, film, and television. Her earliest performing experience came during her time as a student at Northeast High School, and she later developed her craft at the Kansas City Theater and the Resident Theater.
Hillias worked extensively in radio, serving as the lead actress in the serial Manhattan Mother and contributing to three additional radio serials. During World War II, she participated in USO entertainment overseas, performing for military audiences abroad.
Her Broadway career spanned from 1947 to 1950 and included appearances in Peter Pan and the landmark drama A Streetcar Named Desire. In the latter production, she portrayed Eunice Hubbell, the neighbor to Stanley and Stella Kowalski. Hillias subsequently reprised that role in the film adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire, which starred Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando.
Hillias died on March 18, 1960, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, from complications following heart surgery. She was 45 years old.
