About
Paula Laurence launched her acting career in 1937 with Orson Welles' Federal Theatre Project production of Horse Eats Hat. Her Off-Broadway work included productions at City Center and the Phoenix Theatre Company. She also acted regionally at the Westport Country Playhouse, which was run by her husband, producer and director Charles Bowden — a frequent producer of Tennessee Williams' plays. Following Williams' death, the Bowdens became guardians of the playwright's institutionalized sister, Rose Williams.
