Paul Kandel is an American musical theatre actor and tenor born on February 15, 1951, in Queens, New York. His career has spanned stage and screen, with notable work in both Broadway productions and animated film.
Kandel's Broadway career extended from 1992 to 2000 and encompassed productions across multiple genres. His performance as Uncle Ernie in The Who's Tommy earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical in 1993. Additional Broadway credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, in which he played King Herod, as well as Titanic and the drama The Visit.
Beyond the stage, Kandel contributed his voice to Disney's animated feature The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1996, portraying the Roma leader Clopin Trouillefou. In 1997, he appeared in Ron Daniels's production of the play One Flea Spare.
