About
Paul Vincent Guilfoyle is an American actor born on April 28, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Boston College High School, where he later delivered the commencement address to the graduating seniors in 2005, and earned his degree from Lehigh University in 1972. He is a member of The Actors Studio.
Guilfoyle built an early theatrical foundation through twelve years with the Theatre Company of Boston before establishing himself on Broadway, where he performed from 1977 to 1992. His Broadway credits include David Rabe's The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, Search and Destroy, and King Richard II. He also appeared in Those the River Keeps, a production of Richard III featuring Al Pacino, David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross, and Death Defying Acts. His Boston College High School later served as a filming location for Spotlight, a film in which Guilfoyle appeared.
On television, Guilfoyle became widely recognized for portraying Captain Jim Brass on the CBS crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, a role he held from the series premiere in 2000 through 2014. He returned to the role for the two-hour series finale, "Immortality," in 2015, and subsequently appeared in two episodes of the sequel series CSI: Vegas. Among his other television credits are guest appearances on Miami Vice, Law & Order, Wiseguy, New York Undercover, and Ally McBeal, as well as a voice role as Travis Morgan, the Warlord, in Justice League Unlimited. He also guest-starred in the two-part Star Trek: Discovery story "Terra Firma" in 2020, playing Carl, the humanoid avatar of the Guardian of Forever, and appeared in the HBO film Live from Baghdad.
His film work spans nearly three decades and includes Three Men and a Baby, Howard the Duck, Beverly Hills Cop II, Wall Street, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hoffa, Quiz Show, Final Analysis, Celtic Pride, Air Force One, Striptease, Amistad, Primary Colors, L.A. Confidential, The Negotiator, Extreme Measures, and Session 9. He also appeared in the music video for Alter Bridge's single "Broken Wings."
Guilfoyle married choreographer and aerial artist Lisa Giobbi in 1989. The couple have one child and reside in New York City.
