About

Paul E. Burns (January 26, 1881 – May 17, 1967) was an American actor whose career spanned Broadway, film, and television across several decades.

Burns made his Broadway presence felt between 1917 and 1935, appearing in a range of productions that included the revue The Cohan Revue of 1916, the musical Ladies First, A Little Journey, A Slight Case of Murder, and the musical Music Hath Charms, among other productions.

Beyond the stage, Burns built an extensive screen career, appearing predominantly in supporting and bit roles across film and television. His film work began at least as early as 1939, when he appeared in Jesse James as Hank and in Rose of Washington Square as Chump. Throughout the 1940s he accumulated a substantial list of credits, including Men of the Timberland (1941), Saboteur (1942), The Mystery of Marie Roget (1942), and The Mummy's Tomb (1942), in which he played Jim the Caretaker. He continued working steadily through the decade in films such as The Royal Mounted Rides Again (1945), where he portrayed Latitude Bucket, The Devil's Mask (1946), Unconquered (1947), and Adventures in Silverado (1948), among others.

Into the 1950s, Burns appeared in Son of Paleface (1952) as Ebenezer Hawkins and took on roles in two episodes of Adventures of Superman in 1953 and 1954. He also appeared in Apache (1954), Love Me Tender (1956), and the epic Spartacus (1960) in an uncredited role as Fimbria. On television, he made multiple appearances in Alfred Hitchcock Presents between 1956 and 1960, playing a Furrier Assistant, a Fisherman, and a Restaurant Proprietor in separate episodes of the series.
