About

Patsy Ferran is a Spanish-British actress born Patricia Ferran on 25 November 1989 in Valencia, Spain, where both her parents have roots — her father from Barcelona and her mother from Valencia. Her family relocated to England during her childhood, and she attended Notre Dame School, an all-girls convent school in Cobham, Surrey. She studied Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, from which she graduated in 2014.

Ferran began her stage career in London with a 2014 revival of Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit. Her profile rose considerably in 2018 when she played Alma Winemiller in a Rebecca Frecknall-directed revival of Tennessee Williams's Summer and Smoke at the Almeida Theatre, earning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress. She reunited with Frecknall in 2022 for another Williams revival, A Streetcar Named Desire, stepping into the role of Blanche DuBois opposite Paul Mescal as Stanley Kowalski after Lydia Wilson withdrew due to injury. The performance earned Ferran a second Olivier nomination for Best Actress, with the award ultimately going to Jodie Comer. In 2025, Ferran and Mescal reprised their respective roles in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, marking Ferran's Broadway appearance and earning her a Theatre World Award that same year. Her Broadway credits also include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

On screen, Ferran made her film debut in the costume drama Tulip Fever in 2017, the same year she appeared in God's Own Country and the historical drama Darkest Hour. Subsequent film roles include Living (2022) alongside Bill Nighy, Firebrand (2023), and Mickey 17 (2025). She also portrayed Björk in the coming-of-age film How to Build a Girl (2019). Her television work began in 2017 with appearances in the Netflix miniseries Guerrilla, the British series Jamestown, and the TNT historical fiction series Will. Later television credits include the miniseries Black Narcissus (2020), Black Mirror (2025), and Miss Austen (2025).
