About
Patrick Andrew McAlinney (9 November 1913 – 22 August 1990) was an Irish character actor born in Lammy, near Omagh, County Tyrone. His father was farmer Patrick McAlinney, and his mother was Anastasia O'Neill.
McAlinney built a career across stage and screen, becoming a recognizable presence in British television dramas and sitcoms. Among his television roles, he played a brother in the sitcom Oh, Brother!, which starred Derek Nimmo, appeared as Mr. O'Reilly in The Tomorrow People, and portrayed Dr. Daley in Bless Me, Father.
His stage work brought him to both London's West End and Broadway. He appeared in the original West End production of Thornton Wilder's comedy The Matchmaker, and the production subsequently transferred to Broadway, where it ran for fourteen months. His Broadway appearance is recorded as taking place in 1955.
