Patrick Lindesay Archibald Godfrey, born on 13 February 1933 in Finsbury, London, is an English actor whose career spans stage, film, and television. He is the son of Rev. Frederick Godfrey and Lois Mary Gladys Godfrey, née Turner.
Godfrey began his professional career in radio, joining the Radio Drama Company in 1956 after winning the Carleton Hobbs Bursary. His film debut came in 1972 with Miss Julie, and he went on to appear in a number of notable British productions across the following decades, including A Room with a View, The Remains of the Day, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Count of Monte Cristo, Dimensions, and Les Misérables. He also took on the role of Leonardo da Vinci in Ever After, the Cinderella adaptation starring Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott. On television, his credits include appearances in Doctor Who and Inspector Morse, among other series.
Godfrey maintained an active presence on Broadway between 1981 and 1999, appearing in four productions during that period. His stage credits include The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, The Iceman Cometh, Camelot, and The Pirates of Penzance.
In his personal life, Godfrey has been married to actress Amanda Walker since 20 April 1960. The couple have two children, including their daughter Kate Godfrey, who serves as Head of Voice for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
