About
Born Patsy Louise Neal on January 20, 1926, in Packard, Kentucky, Patricia Neal apprenticed at the Barter Theater in Virginia before spending two years studying drama at Northwestern University. She then moved to New York and became a member of the Actors Studio. She married British writer Roald Dahl; their children were Olivia, Tessa, Ophelia, Theo, and Lucy.
Film credits include "Hud," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "A Face in the Crowd," "The Fountainhead," "In Harm's Way," "Ghost Story," "The Hasty Heart," "Cookie's Fortune," and "The Passage." Among her television credits: "Little House on the Prairie," "Murder, She Wrote," "The Waltons," "Kung Fu," "The Untouchables," and "Movin' On."
She won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "Hud" in 1964. Induction into the American Theatre Hall of Fame followed in 2003, and she received a star on the Walk of Fame in 2005.
Broadway theater marquees were dimmed in her honor on August 17, 2010.
