About
Patricia Eileen Marmont (August 9, 1921 – December 3, 2020) was an American-born British actress who worked in film, television, and theater, and later became a theatrical agent. Born in Beechhurst, Queens, New York, she was the daughter of film actor Percy Marmont. During World War II, she served in the Women's Army Corps and was stationed in England.
Marmont appeared on Broadway between 1947 and 1950, with credits including Black Chiffon and An Inspector Calls. Her screen work during this period included a role opposite Cary Grant in the 1956 film I Was a Male War Bride, in which she portrayed a Boston-born lieutenant serving in England during wartime. Her most recognized film role came in the 1956 production Helen of Troy, where she played the Trojan princess Andromache. Her television work included a guest appearance as Lady de Courcier in the Adventures of Robin Hood episode "The Miser" in 1956, and a role as Rosemary in the Danger Man episode "Name, Date, Place" in 1961.
For a period, Marmont was married to character actor Nigel Green. The marriage ended in divorce, and Green died in 1972 from an accidental overdose of sleeping tablets. She had a sister, Pamela Marmont (1923–1999), who also pursued an acting career and was married to actor Moray Watson, who died in 2017.
Marmont retired from acting in the 1970s and relocated to London, where she transitioned into talent representation. She worked initially alongside Larry Dalzell (1933–2011) before founding her own firm, Marmont Management Ltd, in 1983. Among the actors she represented were William H. Macy, Kenneth Branagh, Patricia Routledge, Guy Henry, Alex Jennings, and Julia Ormond. She died at Denville Hall in Northwood, London, in December 2020 at the age of 99.
