About
Patricia Knight, born Marjorie Heinzen on April 28, 1915, in Boston, Massachusetts, was an American actress whose career spanned Broadway, film, and regional theater. She died on October 26, 2004, in Hemet, California, at the age of 89.
Knight's Broadway career ran from 1935 to 1940 and included appearances in several productions. She starred in Romeo and Juliet and performed in the musicals Sea Legs, Jumbo, and Du Barry Was a Lady. It was during this period that she met actor Cornel Wilde at a producer's office in 1936. The two married on September 1, 1937, in Elkton, Maryland, and had one daughter, Wendy. The family resided at Country House on Deep Canyon Road in Los Angeles.
Knight transitioned to film work in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Her screen credits include The Fabulous Texan (1947), in which she played Josie Allen, and Roses Are Red (1947), where she appeared as Jill Carney. In 1949, she and Wilde costarred in Shockproof, a film noir written by Sam Fuller and directed by Douglas Sirk for Columbia Pictures, in which Knight played Jenny Marsh. That same year, the couple performed together at Cape Playhouse in a production of Western Wind. Her subsequent film roles included The Second Face (1950) as Lynn Hamilton, The Magic Face (1951) as Vera Janus, and The Lone Wolf (1954) as Janice Avon.
Knight and Wilde divorced on August 30, 1951. On October 24, 1954, she married Danish businessman Niels Larson and relocated with him to Europe. The couple returned to the United States in 1969, and Larson died in 1971. Knight later married building adviser David Wright and settled with him in Hemet, California, where he died on May 22, 1996. Knight remained in Hemet until her own death in 2004.
