Patricia Kalember is an American actress born on December 30, 1956, in Schenectady, New York, who was raised in Westport, Connecticut, and Louisville, Kentucky. She earned a BA in Theater from Indiana University and an MFA from Temple University. Kalember has been married to British actor Daniel Gerroll since 1986, with whom she has three children. She was previously married to actor Mark Torres.
Kalember began her television career in 1981 with an appearance on the daytime soap opera Texas and subsequently became a regular cast member on Loving. Her early stage work earned her an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for The Foreigner in 1986. That same year, she took the leading role in the short-lived CBS drama series Kay O'Brien, and in 1988 she co-starred with Tim Matheson in the ABC sitcom Just in Time. A recurring role on thirtysomething followed from 1989 to 1991.
Her most prominent television role came with the NBC drama series Sisters, in which she played Georgiana "Georgie" Reed Whitsig alongside Swoosie Kurtz, Sela Ward, and Julianne Phillips from 1991 to 1996. She later returned to the NBC drama landscape with a recurring role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, where she played Judge Karen Taten from 2004 to 2010, having also appeared in a separate role in a second-season episode in 2001.
Kalember's film credits span several decades. Her earlier features include Cat's Eye (1985), Fletch Lives (1989), Jacob's Ladder (1990), Big Girls Don't Cry... They Get Even (1992), and A Far Off Place (1993). In 2002, she appeared as Mel Gibson's character's wife in Signs and portrayed Margaret Craig McNamara in the HBO biographical film Path to War. Later film appearances include The Company Men (2010) and Limitless (2011). She also had guest roles on television series including Touched by an Angel, Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, and Orange Is the New Black.
On Broadway, Kalember performed between 1987 and 2012, appearing in The Nerd, Losing Louie, Short Talks on the Universe, and starring in Don't Dress for Dinner.
