About
Patricia Margaret Crowley was born on September 17, 1933, in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, and went on to become an American actress whose career spanned Broadway, film, and television across more than five decades. Her sister Ann was also an actress. Crowley died in Los Angeles on September 14, 2025, at the age of 91.
Crowley began her professional career on Broadway, appearing in productions between 1947 and 1952. Her stage credits included Four Twelves Are 48, Southern Exposure, Tovarich, and Carousel. Her work during this period earned her a Theatre World Award in 1951. That same year she took on the role of Judy Foster in the daytime ABC-TV production of A Date with Judy.
Her transition to film brought immediate recognition. In 1953 she appeared as Sally Carver in Forever Female, a picture starring Ginger Rogers and William Holden, and as Dr. Autumn Claypool in Money from Home alongside Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Those two performances earned her the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. She reteamed with Martin and Lewis in their final film together, Hollywood or Bust (1956), playing Terry Roberts. Also in 1954, Crowley costarred with Rosemary Clooney in the musical Red Garters, and in 1955 she appeared opposite Tony Curtis in the boxing drama The Square Jungle. The following year she was featured alongside Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray in There's Always Tomorrow and appeared in the Audie Murphy Western Walk the Proud Land. She later had a role in The Wheeler Dealers (1963), a comedy starring James Garner and Lee Remick.
On television, Crowley accumulated an extensive list of guest appearances beginning in the 1950s. She appeared in the pilot for The Untouchables and in series including Rawhide, Wanted: Dead or Alive, The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Maverick, Cheyenne, Riverboat, 77 Sunset Strip, Mr. Novak, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and many others. In a 1958 episode of Maverick titled "The Rivals," a reworking of Richard Brinsley Sheridan's 1775 play, she served as leading lady to both James Garner and Roger Moore. She was billed in some Maverick episodes as Patricia Crowley and in others as Pat Crowley. She also sang and danced on The Dean Martin Show.
From 1965 to 1967, Crowley starred as Joan Nash in the NBC-MGM sitcom Please Don't Eat the Daisies, based on Jean Kerr's 1957 book and the 1960 film of the same name. In 1975 and 1976 she played Georgia Cameron on the Joe Forrester television series. Her later television work included guest appearances on Bonanza, Columbo, Charlie's Angels, The Rockford Files, Hawaii Five-O, The Streets of San Francisco, Police Woman, Happy Days, The Love Boat, Dynasty, Empty Nest, Roseanne, Frasier, and Friends, among others. She portrayed Emily Fallmont in nine episodes of Dynasty in 1986 and appeared in episodes of The Closer in 2006 and Cold Case in 2009. Crowley also reached a new generation of viewers through recurring roles on the daytime serials Generations from 1989 to 1990, Port Charles from 1997 to 2003, and The Bold and the Beautiful in 2005. In the Billy Crystal-directed biopic 61*, she portrayed the widow of baseball player Roger Maris.
