About

Pasquale Aleardi is a Swiss actor born on June 1, 1971, in Zurich, Switzerland, the son of Greco-Italian emigrants. He works across theater, film, and television in multiple languages and has built a career spanning Swiss, German, and American productions.

Aleardi's early professional life began with his first Swiss film role in Jazz in 1994. Despite gaining immediate recognition from that work, he departed the Zurich University of the Arts in 1995 and relocated to Germany, where he pursued stage work at theaters in Bonn, Düsseldorf, and Cologne. Among his German theatrical credits was The Big Bang by Arthur Miller, a production that earned the Best Production NRW 96 distinction and a place in the Berliner Theatertreffen.

His Broadway career brought him to New York in 1996, where he appeared in Chicago, playing the role of Billy Flynn in that production.

As his focus shifted toward film, Aleardi appeared opposite Veronica Ferres in the German television film Für immer verloren and made his German cinema debut in At Night in the Park, sharing the screen with Heike Makatsch and Heino Ferch. He took on the role of Ekart in a film adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's Baal, a production that also featured Matthias Schweighöfer. His performance alongside Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil, in which he played J.D. Salinas, marked his first significant international exposure.

In 2006, Aleardi appeared as copilot Peter Landolt in Grounding – Die letzten Tage der Swissair, a film chronicling the final days of the Swiss airline. That same year he appeared in Schöner Leben, in a film adaptation of Frank Wedekind's Lulu, and in the Anke Engelke television series Frauengeschichten. Also released in 2006 were the German film comedy Wo ist Fred?, in which he played an egocentric marketing manager opposite Alexandra Maria Lara, Jürgen Vogel, and Til Schweiger, and the Swiss television production Süssigkeiten, in which he portrayed a charming opportunist attempting to rescue his company from financial collapse.

In 2016, Aleardi starred as Tommaso, an Italian miner, in Gotthard, the largest-scale Swiss television production ever made. The film had its world premiere on August 2, 2016, during the Prefestival evening at the Locarno Film Festival. The following year, Aleardi received the Swiss Film Award for Best Leading Actor for that performance.

Aleardi resides in Zurich and speaks five languages. Beyond acting, he is active in music, singing and playing piano, and has been a member of the Cologne-based music project Big Gee since 2004.
