About
Pamela Denise Anderson was born on July 1, 1967, in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada, to Barry W. Anderson, a furnace repairman, and Carol Anderson, a waitress. Her birth received press attention as she arrived on the 100th anniversary of Canada's official founding under the Constitution Act, 1867, making her a "Centennial Baby." Anderson has a younger brother, Gerry, born in 1971, who later worked as an actor and producer on some of her projects. Her family background includes Finnish ancestry through her great-grandfather Juho Hyytiäinen, who emigrated from Saarijärvi in the Grand Duchy of Finland to Canada in 1908 and adopted the Anderson surname. Her grandfather Herman Anderson, a logger and poet, taught her to speak Finnish. On her mother's side, Anderson has Volga German heritage; her grandmother Rose Friesen was an ethnically German woman born in Russia in a Mennonite village who immigrated to Canada in 1901.
Anderson attended Highland Secondary School in Comox, British Columbia, where she played on the volleyball team, graduating in 1985. During her middle school years she performed as a scat soloist for her school jazz band, playing the saxophone. She became a vegetarian in her early teens and later transitioned to a vegan diet in her twenties. In 1988, she moved to Vancouver and worked as a fitness instructor. The following year, she attended a BC Lions Canadian Football League game at BC Place Stadium, where her image appeared on the jumbotron while she was wearing a Labatt's Beer shirt. The brewing company briefly hired her as a spokesmodel, and her then-boyfriend Dan Ilicic produced a poster of her image called the Blue Zone Girl.
That exposure led to a Playboy photo shoot in Los Angeles, and Anderson appeared on the cover of the magazine's October 1989 issue. She subsequently relocated to Los Angeles to pursue modeling, and Playboy named her Playmate of the Month in the February 1990 issue. Her association with the publication spanned 22 years, during which she appeared on more of its covers than any other model and wrote the foreword to the coffee table book Playboy's Greatest Covers.
Anderson's acting career began with a minor role as Lisa, the original Tool Time Girl, on the ABC comedy series Home Improvement, which she held from 1991 to 1993. Her breakthrough came with the role of C.J. Parker on the action drama series Baywatch, which she played for five seasons between 1992 and 1997, becoming one of the longest-serving cast members. She earned $1,500 per episode during the first season. The role brought her international recognition and established her as a widely known public figure. She reprised the character in the reunion film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003 and in DirecTV commercials in 2007.
Her film work during the 1990s included her first starring role in Raw Justice in 1994, co-starring with Stacy Keach, David Keith, and Robert Hays, a film that won the Bronze Award at the Worldfest-Charleston in the dramatic theatrical films category under its alternate title Good Cop, Bad Cop. In 1996, she starred as Barbara Rose Kopetski in Barb Wire. In April 1997, she guest-hosted Saturday Night Live. Beginning in September 1998, Anderson starred as Vallery Irons in the Sony Pictures Television syndicated series V.I.P., created by J. F. Lawton, which ran for four seasons through 2002. She later played Skyler Dayton in the Fox sitcom Stacked from 2005 to 2006.
Anderson's additional film credits include Scary Movie 3 in 2003, Borat in 2006, the Baywatch feature film in 2017, and City Hunter in 2018. She starred in the reality series Pam: Girl on the Loose in 2008 and competed on the Dancing with the Stars franchise in 2010, 2012, and 2018.
Anderson made her Broadway debut in 2022, playing Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago. Her stage work contributed to a broader career resurgence in the 2020s that also included the 2023 Netflix documentary Pamela, a Love Story and the publication of her autobiography, Love, Pamela, the same year. In 2024, she starred in the independent drama film The Last Showgirl, for which she received nominations for the Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. She then appeared in the comedy film The Naked Gun in 2025, for which she drew on her early saxophone training to perform a solo. Also in 2024, she released the plant-based cookbook I Love You: Recipes from the Heart, and in 2025 she began hosting the Flavour Network cooking show Pamela's Cooking with Love.
Throughout her career Anderson has been an active supporter of animal rights and a prominent advocate for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and she endorses plant-based cooking and diet.
