About

Ophelia Lucy Lovibond, born on 19 February 1986, is an English actress whose career spans television, film, theatre, and radio. She is recognized for playing Carina in the Marvel films Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy, Izzy Gould in the BBC satire W1A, Joyce Prigger in the Starz period-comedy series Minx, Kitty Winter in the CBS drama Elementary, and Patty Failure in Disney's Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. In January 2024, she made her Broadway debut in Jez Butterworth's The Hills of California at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Lovibond was raised in Shepherd's Bush, London, in a single-parent household alongside a brother, a sister, and various children fostered by her mother, who worked as a chartered psychologist at Wormwood Scrubs Prison. She decided she wanted to act around the age of ten. She attended Latymer Upper School on a scholarship and was also a member of the Young Blood youth theatre group in Hammersmith, an organization whose alumni include Imogen Poots, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Carey Mulligan. She went on to graduate from the University of Sussex in 2008 with a degree in English Literature.

Lovibond began her television career in 2000 at the age of twelve, when she was cast as Poppy Wilson in the Channel 4 sitcom The Wilsons, appearing opposite David Bradley. She lied about her age to secure the role and performed before a live studio audience with no formal drama training. Subsequent television work included the British period drama Heartbeat, Elliot Hegarty's FM, and the anthology series Inside No. 9, in which she appeared in the 2014 episode "Sardines." In 2014, she joined Elementary as Kitty Winter, a recurring character introduced in season three who also appeared in seasons five and seven. The show's creator, Robert Doherty, reached out to her agent in Los Angeles, and Lovibond submitted an audition tape at home before being offered the role the following day and flying to New York eight days later for a five-month shoot. She played Lady Alexandra Lindo-Parker in the 2016 Sky1 series Hooten & The Lady, appeared as MI6 agent Emma Davies in the 2019 series Whiskey Cavalier, and portrayed Erica in the BBC and Apple TV co-production Trying between 2020 and 2022. On 16 September 2020, she was announced as the lead of HBO Max's Minx, and in 2022 she played Carrie Symonds in the television series This England.

Her film career began with a role in Roman Polanski's 2005 adaptation of Oliver Twist. She subsequently appeared in the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, took a leading role in 4.3.2.1, and had parts in the 2011 releases London Boulevard, No Strings Attached, and Mr. Popper's Penguins. She played Teri in the BFI and BBC film 8 Minutes Idle and portrayed Carina, described as the Collector's slave, in the 2014 Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. In radio, she played Sam Peakes in the first series of Lobby Land on BBC Radio 4, broadcast in June 2018.

Lovibond made her professional stage debut in 2015 in the revival of Lucy Prebble's The Effect, directed by Daniel Evans. The following year she appeared as Elizabeth Barry in Stephen Jeffreys' The Libertine at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket. In 2017 she played Lois in Githa Sowerby's The Stepmother, and in 2018 she appeared in Barney Norris's Nightfall and starred in a revival of David Hare's The Bay at Nice. Her Broadway debut came in January 2024, when she starred in Jez Butterworth's The Hills of California, which premiered at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End before transferring to the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway.

In her personal life, Lovibond married actor Henry Pettigrew on 1 May 2022. The two met while both appeared in The Effect. She gave birth to her first child in December 2025.
