Nunzio Gallo

Nunzio Gallo was an Italian singer, actor, and Broadway performer, born on 25 March 1928 in Naples. He built a career that spanned music, film, and theater across multiple decades.

Gallo first gained widespread recognition in the Italian music world when he won the Sanremo Music Festival in 1957, sharing the honor with Claudio Villa. That victory led directly to his selection as Italy's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 1957, where he performed the winning Sanremo entry "Corde della mia chitarra." The song finished sixth in the Eurovision competition and holds a notable place in the contest's history as the longest song ever performed at Eurovision, running to five minutes and nine seconds, before regulations were introduced imposing a three-minute length limit.

Beyond his music career, Gallo established himself as a film actor, appearing in more than twenty films over the course of his career. His work in theater extended to the Broadway stage, where he appeared in 1964 in the production Rugantino.

Gallo was the father of actor and singer Massimiliano Gallo. He died on 22 February 2008 in Telese Terme, following a severe brain haemorrhage he had suffered in September 2007, at the age of seventy-nine.
