About
Norman Snow (March 29, 1950 – November 28, 2022) was an American actor of stage, film, and television, born in Little Rock, Arkansas. His early engagement with performance began at Second Baptist Church, where he sang in the children's choir. After graduating from North Little Rock High School, he was accepted into the inaugural class of the Juilliard School and subsequently became a founding member of John Houseman's The Acting Company.
Through his membership in The Acting Company, Snow performed lead roles in classical productions both in New York City and on tour across the United States and England. His Broadway career spanned from 1973 to 1996 and included productions such as Inherit the Wind, The School for Scandal, Scenes and Revelations, Macbeth, and The Three Sisters. In addition to his acting work, Snow was a tenor who sang in several choirs, among them The St. Charles Borromeo Choir in North Hollywood and the Metropolitan Master Chorale in Los Angeles.
Snow's screen career began in the late 1970s with an appearance in the television series Man from Atlantis in 1977, followed by a role in the 1979 film The Europeans. In 1980 he joined the cast of the soap opera Texas as A.D.A. John Blackwell, and in 1984 he appeared as Xur in the science fiction film The Last Starfighter, a role for which he became particularly recognized. Two years later he portrayed the Atlanta Police Chief of Homicide Springfield in Michael Mann's thriller Manhunter and also appeared in a 1986 episode of Spenser: For Hire as Peter Devane.
His television work continued steadily through the following decades. He played D.A. Hollis Martin on Another World in 1985, and from 1990 to 1991 appeared as Broxton in more than two dozen episodes of General Hospital. Among his most noted television appearances was the role of Torin in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Rightful Heir" during the series' sixth season. Additional credits from the 1990s include Quantum Leap in 1992, L.A. Law in 1993, Law & Order in 1994, Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1997, and Profiler, in which he played Morgan Ballard in 1997. He also appeared in a recurring role as Duke Rupert Harriman on Days of Our Lives from 1998 to 2000.
Snow returned to film in 2001, appearing as Jim Rock in Moonbeams alongside his wife, actress Mary-Joan Negro, who played Sr. Christina. Negro was herself a founding member of The Acting Company. The two were married, connecting their shared origins in John Houseman's ensemble to their later personal and professional lives.
