About

Norma Lee Clark (1927–2002) was an American actress and author who also spent more than three decades as the private secretary and assistant to filmmaker Woody Allen. Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, Clark died on November 8, 2002.

Clark began her performing career at the Pittsburgh Children's Theater and subsequently worked at the Rochester Arena Theater before relocating to New York City in the late 1940s. Her move to the city was prompted by an opportunity to take the female lead in the television series Captain Video and His Video Rangers, which aired on the DuMont network from 1949 to 1955. The role may have made her one of the first recurring female leads in science fiction television, though incomplete records from the defunct DuMont network make it difficult to establish precise transmission dates or a full accounting of the cast. Her Broadway work included an appearance in 1952 in the musical The Choir Rehearsal.

Alongside her long tenure as Woody Allen's assistant, Clark pursued a parallel career as a writer of Regency romance novels, producing fifteen books in the genre. Her titles included The Infamous Rake, The Daring Duchess, and The Impulsive Miss Pymbroke, and Lady Jane was identified as the most popular among them. She published some of her novels under the pen name Megan O'Connor.

Clark was married to lighting designer David Clark, with whom she had two daughters, Megan and Emily. The marriage later ended in divorce, and she subsequently remarried to Dimitri Vassilopoulos.
