About
Nikki Crawford is an American actress working across stage, film, and television, who was born and raised in Washington, D.C. She earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University's drama program, and upon graduating was offered a leading role in the European Tour of Bubbling Brown Sugar, which launched her professional career.
Crawford's theater work includes a starring role opposite Leslie Uggams in Stormy Weather at the Pasadena Playhouse, in which she played the young Lena Horne and earned an NAACP Theatre Award. She also received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Play On!.
Her most prominent stage role to date is Tedra in Fat Ham, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by James Ijames. Crawford originated the role at the Public Theater before transferring with the production to the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway in 2023, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play. Between the two runs of Fat Ham, she appeared in another Ijames work, The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington, at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre.
Crawford's screen work includes the pilot Very Young Frankenstein, starring Zack Galifianakis and directed by Taika Waititi for FX/Hulu, which she wrapped in late 2025.
