About

Nicolas Dromard, born October 7, 1980, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is a Canadian singer and stage actor whose Broadway career spanned from 2001 to 2011. His first language was French, as he was born to French parents, and he did not begin learning English until age seven. As a child, he attended the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance in Nepean, Ontario, having been inspired to take up dancing after watching a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film. He also studied music at École secondaire publique De La Salle, a performing arts high school in Ottawa, where he learned piano and flute, and received vocal training from Yoriko Tanno-Kimmons, a voice instructor based in Ottawa.

Dromard's first paid acting role came at age twelve, when he played "Little Boy" in the television film The Tin Soldier. He was active in community theater in Ottawa, participating in amateur productions including Anne of Green Gables – The Musical and Crazy for You. In 1998, while attending a dance contest in New York City, he was scouted to perform in a Radio City Productions Christmas Spectacular satellite production in Branson, Missouri. The following year, he earned his Canadian Actors' Equity Association card performing in West Side Story at the Stratford Festival of Canada in Stratford, Ontario.

Dromard's Broadway career began with the 2002 revival of Oklahoma!, in which he played Sam, a credit that also earned him his American Actors' Equity Association card. He subsequently appeared in The Boy From Oz on Broadway before joining the original Broadway cast of Mary Poppins, which began previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre on October 14, 2006, and officially opened on November 16, 2006. In that production, starring Ashley Brown in the title role and Gavin Lee as Bert, Dromard served as a swing, understudying roles including Von Hussler, William, and Bert.

Prior to returning to Mary Poppins in a principal capacity, Dromard joined the first national tour of Wicked in October 2004 as a swing, after an eight-hour audition process. The tour began previews at the Canon Theatre in Toronto on March 9, 2005, and officially opened on March 21, 2005, with Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba, Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda, Derrick Williams as Fiyero, David Garrison as the Wizard, Carol Kane as Madame Morrible, Jenna Leigh Green as Nessarose, Logan Lipton as Boq, and Timothy Britten Parker as Doctor Dillamond. After auditioning for the role of Fiyero in October 2008, Dromard was cast to lead Wicked's open-ended San Francisco engagement alongside Teal Wicks as Elphaba and Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda. That production began previews at the Orpheum Theatre on January 27, 2009, and officially opened on February 6, 2009. During the run, Dromard performed alongside both Academy Award winner Patty Duke and Emmy Award winner Carol Kane, each of whom portrayed Madame Morrible at different points. The San Francisco production was seen by nearly a million people during its first year and averaged over one million dollars in weekly grosses, according to Variety Magazine. Dromard departed the role of Fiyero on June 26, 2010, and was replaced by Cliffton Hall. The San Francisco production closed on September 5, 2010.

Dromard left the San Francisco Wicked engagement to take on the role of Bert in Mary Poppins on Broadway, playing the part for four weeks from July 16 to August 23, 2010. He then transitioned to the national tour of Mary Poppins, beginning in Indianapolis, Indiana in September 2010 and concluding in March 2012. Over the course of the tour, he performed opposite Caroline Sheen and Laura Michelle Kelly, both of whom portrayed Mary Poppins at various points during his tenure. In December 2012, Dromard announced he would return to the role of Bert on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre, with performances running from January 10, 2013, through August 8, 2013.

Dromard subsequently joined the national tour of Jersey Boys as Tommy DeVito, making his debut in the role on June 4, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had previously appeared in the Broadway production of Jersey Boys as well. In the touring cast, he performed alongside Nick Cosgrove as Frankie Valli, Brandon Andrus as Nick Massi, and Jason Kappus as Bob Gaudio.
