About

Nick Kroll is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer born on June 5, 1978, in Rye, New York. He is the youngest child of Lynn and Jules Kroll, whose father founded Kroll Inc., a corporate investigations and risk consulting firm. Kroll grew up in a Conservative Jewish household and attended the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester before completing his secondary education at Rye Country Day School, where he also briefly enrolled at The Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont. He earned his degree from Georgetown University in 2001, studying history with minors in art and Spanish while increasingly gravitating toward media studies.

Early in his career, Kroll contributed writing to Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show and MTV's Human Giant. He honed his performance skills at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York and Los Angeles, developing a body of character work that includes Bobby Bottleservice, Ref Jeff, Fabrice Fabrice, and Gil Faizon, the last of which he created alongside writing partner John Mulaney. In November and December 2008, he toured with Aziz Ansari on the Glow in the Dark comedy tour. Comedy Central aired his stand-up special Thank You Very Cool in 2011, and he was recognized with the Breakout Star of the Year award at the 2013 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

Kroll's television career gained significant momentum with his starring role as Rodney Ruxin in the FXX comedy series The League, which ran from October 29, 2009, to December 9, 2015. Concurrently, he created and starred in Kroll Show on Comedy Central, which aired from January 16, 2013, to March 24, 2015. He also held a recurring role on Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim and provided voice work for The Life & Times of Tim on HBO, Sit Down, Shut Up on Fox, and WordGirl on PBS Kids GO. His guest appearances span Parks and Recreation, Community, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, New Girl, and multiple Comedy Central programs. In 2017, Kroll co-created, wrote, and starred in the Netflix animated series Big Mouth, in which two central characters are based on Kroll and his childhood friend Andrew Goldberg. Kroll voices Nick as well as Coach Steve, Maurice the Hormone Monster, Lola, Rick the Hormone Monster, the Jansen twins, Lady Liberty, and additional minor characters. The series ran through 2025. He also co-created the Netflix spinoff Human Resources, which ran from 2022 to 2023, and appeared in the Hulu sketch comedy series History of the World, Part II in 2023.

Kroll's film credits span both voice and live-action roles. His earlier supporting appearances include I Love You, Man (2009), Get Him to the Greek (2010), and Adult Beginners (2014). The production premiered on Broadway on September 23, 2016, ran for six months, and was subsequently filmed and released on Netflix in 2017. Kroll also contributed as a book writer to Broadway productions during this period.
