Nicholas Boulton

Nicholas Boulton, born on 22 November 1968 in Gibraltar to a Northern Irish family, is a British actor, narrator, and voice actor whose work spans theatre, television, film, and video games. He spent his childhood in Ireland and England before attending Sherborne School in Dorset. He subsequently trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London from 1990 to 1993, and in his final year received the BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary, a Radio Drama award for emerging actors that came with a seven-month contract with the BBC Radio Drama Company.

Boulton made his Broadway appearance in 2015 in Wolf Hall Parts One & Two. His film work includes roles in Shakespeare in Love and Topsy-Turvy, and he has appeared in television series including Game of Thrones and Doctor Who. He has also contributed voice work to BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4.

In the video game industry, Boulton is recognized for voicing the male version of Hawke, the protagonist of Dragon Age II, a role he shares with Jo Wyatt, who voices the female counterpart. Both actors reprised their performances in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Boulton has appeared in additional BioWare titles including Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 3, and Mass Effect: Andromeda, in which he plays Reyes Vidal. He voices Raubahn, the leader of one of the three main city-states, in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV, and portrays Gadolt, the fiancé of the playable character Sharla, in Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.

As an audiobook narrator, Boulton has voiced more than 100 titles. In June 2023, AudioFile recognized this body of work by inducting him as a Golden Voice.
