About

Neil David Haskell, born April 16, 1987, in Buffalo, New York, is an American dancer and actor who grew up in Clarence Center, New York. He began dancing at age five, training at the David DeMarie Dance Studio in Clarence and the American Academy of Ballet in Williamsville. At age 15, he pursued intensive ballet training at the Chautauqua Institution over three summers. Haskell graduated from Clarence High School in 2005, the same year he received the title of Male Dancer of the Year at the American Dance Awards. He subsequently attended Point Park University for one year, studying dance, and describes his personal style as jazz and ballet.

Haskell first gained widespread recognition as a contestant on the Fox competition series So You Think You Can Dance, where he finished in the top four, placing third. During the competition, he was initially partnered with Lauren Gottlieb before being reassigned to Sara Von Gillern in Week 6, with whom he performed a disco routine. Following the season, he participated in the show's 2007 national dance tour, which concluded on November 30 of that year. He appeared on the Season 4 finale on August 7, 2008, joining contestants from earlier seasons in a group number, and later returned to the series as an All-Star in both Season 7 and Season 8.

Prior to his Broadway career, Haskell performed in Twyla Tharp's Broadway production The Times They Are A-Changin', which featured music by Bob Dylan, and appeared in several Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera productions including Grease, 42nd Street, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Beauty and the Beast. On April 22, 2008, he began playing the role of Luke in the Off-Broadway musical Altar Boyz, continuing in that role through March 2009. That same year, he was cast as Jake in F#@king Up Everything at the New York Musical Theater Festival, with all performances selling out. He also appeared in MTV's film musical The American Mall, broadcast and released on DVD in summer 2008.

Haskell joined the first national tour of West Side Story as Snowboy and subsequently toured in Bring It On: The Musical as Steven beginning in spring 2012. He went on to originate the role of Steven when Bring It On: The Musical transferred to Broadway at the St. James Theatre in fall 2012. In the summer of 2015, he joined the company of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre as a swing. He became a member of the cast of Tuck Everlasting on Broadway before rejoining Hamilton, where in June 2016 he replaced Jon Rua as Charles Lee. From August 7 through 12, 2018, he served as the principal King George in the Broadway cast of Hamilton. He also played King George in the national touring company of Hamilton. Haskell appeared in the Broadway production of Cinderella and, beginning in October 2024, joined the ensemble of Death Becomes Her on Broadway, a production that had its out-of-town tryout at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theater from April 30 through June 2, 2024.
