About

Neil Bartram is a composer, lyricist, and book writer for musical theatre, based in New York and working primarily in collaboration with book writer Brian Hill. A member of the Dramatists Guild and ASCAP, Bartram is also an alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Music Theatre Workshop, and his work is published by Warner/Chappell Music.

Bartram's Broadway credit is The Story of My Life, written with Hill, directed by Richard Maltby Jr., and starring Will Chase and Malcolm Gets. The production earned Bartram two Drama Desk Award nominations in 2009, one for Outstanding Music and one for Outstanding Lyrics. Music Theatre International licenses the show, and PS Classics produced its cast recording.

Beyond Broadway, Bartram and Hill have collaborated on a substantial body of work. The Theory of Relativity, developed at Goodspeed Musicals, is also licensed by Music Theatre International, and its cast album was likewise produced by PS Classics. The Adventures of Pinocchio, commissioned by Chicago Shakespeare Theater, is licensed by Concord Theatricals. Additional collaborations with Hill include Something Wicked This Way Comes, Spin at Signature Theatre directed by Eric Schaeffer, You Are Here which has been produced at Thousand Islands Playhouse, Goodspeed Musicals, and Southwark Playhouse, and Senza Luce, developed at Sheridan College. Bartram and Hill also wrote the book and score for Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Among Bartram's individual projects is a new score for Shakespeare in Love at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, directed by Rachel Rockwell, which earned him a Jeff Award nomination. He also contributed to the Canadian National Tour of Belles Soeurs.

Bartram's recognition includes the ASCAP Foundation's Yellen Award, a Jonathan Larson Foundation Award, a Dramatists Guild Fellowship, and a Dora Award.
