About
Neal Bledsoe is a Canadian-American actor, writer, and filmmaker born on March 26, 1981, in Toronto, whose work spans theater, film, television, poetry, short fiction, and journalism. His family relocated to Seattle, Washington shortly after his birth, and he grew up there attending Roosevelt High School and Garfield High School before enrolling at Ascent, part of the CEDU school system. He later graduated from Shawnigan Lake School and completed a post-graduate year at the Idyllwild Arts Academy, where he began publishing short stories and poems. He went on to earn a BFA in 2005 from the North Carolina School of the Arts, where he studied under theater director Gerald Freedman.
Bledsoe's professional acting career began quickly after graduation, when he booked a pilot opposite Kelly Lynch. His breakthrough came in 2009 with appearances on Gossip Girl and Ugly Betty, where he played Tyler, the long-lost son of Judith Light's character. He subsequently appeared in a wide range of television series, including Law and Order: SVU, Smash, Ironside, The Man in the High Castle opposite Rufus Sewell, The Mysteries of Laura as the long-running love interest of Debra Messing's character, Timeless, Code Black, and Shameless opposite Emmy Rossum. His film work includes roles in Revolutionary Road and Sex and the City 2, as well as a starring role opposite Val Kilmer in the western A Soldier's Revenge. He has received awards for his performances in the independent films Junction, West End, and After the Sun Fell. He is set to appear in Kathryn Bigelow's Netflix film A House of Dynamite, playing the husband of Rebecca Ferguson's character. Bledsoe also appeared in advertising campaigns for Tiffany and Co. opposite Dutch model Doutzen Kroes and for Old Spice.
On stage, Bledsoe's Broadway credits include Impressionism and the 2025 production of Othello, in which he appeared opposite Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, playing the Duke of Venice and serving as understudy for Gyllenhaal's role as Iago. Beyond Broadway, his stage work includes the world premiere of Stephen Wadsworth's Figaro Plays at the McCarter Theatre and Michael Arden's production of The Pride at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
As a writer, Bledsoe has contributed to Sports Illustrated's MMQB, beginning in 2014, as well as to Men's Health and Variety. In 2016, he produced a long-form series titled The Delicate Moron, which documented his attempt to play for the Los Angeles Kiss of the Arena Football League. In 2015, he wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Primary, a commission that examined open relationships and drew on the work of John Cassavetes, Esther Perel, and Helen Fisher, as well as extensive interviews conducted across a range of relationship experiences.
In December 2022, Bledsoe publicly announced his departure from the Great American Family network, citing the network's anti-LGBTQ stance and stating that the prospect of his work being used to discriminate against others horrified and infuriated him.
