Nan Marriott-Watson (31 August 1899 – 28 August 1982) was a British character actress born in West Derby, Lancashire, whose career spanned stage and broadcast media across several decades. She performed on Broadway between 1927 and 1928, appearing in the plays Diversion and If.
Beyond her stage work, Marriott-Watson made a significant contribution to British radio as one of the founding performers of The Archers. In 1950, she originated the role of matriarch Doris Archer in the pilot episodes of the series. The character was subsequently recast, with Gwen Berryman taking on the role and holding it for nearly thirty years.
Marriott-Watson was also connected to the early development of Coronation Street. She was the original choice for the role of Ena Sharples and appeared in the second unaired pilot episode in 1960. Before the first episode was recorded, the part was recast with Violet Carson. Marriott-Watson died on 28 August 1982 in Puttenham, Surrey.
