Margaret Muriel de Melfort Martin-Harvey was born on 4 October 1891 in London to a theatrical family. Martin-Harvey began her acting career in 1911, making her debut in her father's production of Pelléas and Mélisande at the Lyceum Theatre in London. The following year she appeared in The Bear-Leaders. Her Broadway career spanned 1914 to 1915, during which she appeared in the musical Papa's Darling and the Ziegfeld Follies of 1915. She subsequently toured the United States in 1916 as the leading lady to actor Cyril Maude. That same year she appeared in two silent films, The Answer and The Hard Way. Martin-Harvey retired from the stage in 1939 at the outbreak of World War II.
