About
Muni Seroff was a Jewish actor and singer born Chaim Leizerovich Zilberang on January 8, 1895, in Kishinev, in the Russian Empire. A baritone, he built a reputation performing Russian and Jewish songs across both film and stage. Over the course of his career he was also known by the aliases Munia Serebroff and Mini Seroff before settling on the name by which he became professionally recognized.
Seroff's origins were in a Jewish merchant family in Kishinev, and he eventually made his way to the United States, where he established himself as a stage performer. His Broadway career spanned more than three decades, from 1936 to 1968, during which he appeared in a range of productions. His credits included You Can't Take It With You, The Wall, and Soldiers.
Seroff died on December 19, 1979, and was buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery in New York City.
