About

Morgan Spector is an American actor born on October 4, 1980, in Santa Rosa, California, who grew up in Guerneville, California. His father, a Jewish attorney whose own mother performed in the New York Yiddish Theatre District, and his mother, of mostly Irish Catholic descent, who worked in public education as both a teacher and administrator, raised him in Northern California. Spector first performed in community theater at age eight and continued acting through high school and college. He earned a degree from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, before enrolling in the acting program at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. He subsequently worked in regional theater, including a tour of The Lion King, and relocated to New York City in 2006.

Spector made his Broadway debut in 2010 in Gregory Mosher's revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, taking on the role of Rodolpho after being elevated from a smaller part when the originally cast actor was injured during previews. In 2012, he appeared Off-Broadway in Erika Sheffer's The Russian Transport, produced by The New Group, playing the role of Boris. That same year, his stage work earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play. In 2014, he co-starred alongside Rebecca Hall in a Broadway revival of Sophie Treadwell's Machinal. His Broadway credits also include Harvey. Spector and Hall, who met during the Machinal production, married in September 2015 and welcomed their first child in 2018. The two appeared together on stage again in June 2017 in Clare Lizzimore's Animal, performed in New York, and have also shared the screen in the 2016 film Christine and the 2017 film Permission.

On screen, Spector built a substantial profile across film and television. He appeared in the 2016 drama Christine and the 2018 film A Vigilante opposite Olivia Wilde. In 2018, he joined the cast of the television series Homeland, and in 2019 he starred alongside Gina Torres in Pearson, a USA Network legal drama and spin-off of Suits. His role in the 2020 HBO miniseries The Plot Against America, an adaptation of Philip Roth's novel featuring Winona Ryder, brought him wider recognition. He went on to headline HBO's historical drama The Gilded Age beginning in 2022, appearing alongside Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski. His film credits additionally include Boston Strangler, released in 2023.

Outside of his performance work, Spector is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and served as a producer on the documentary The Big Scary "S" Word. In 2024, he was among 30 artists who publicly read the dossier from South Africa's genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice, an event organized by Palifest. In September 2025, he signed an open pledge with Film Workers for Palestine committing not to work with Israeli film institutions described in the pledge as implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.
