Morey Feld

Morey Feld (August 15, 1915 – March 28, 1971) was an American jazz drummer whose career spanned big band ensembles, Broadway productions, and studio recording work across several decades.

Feld began building his professional résumé in the mid-1930s, joining Ben Pollack's band in 1936. He went on to play with Benny Goodman from 1943 to 1945, a tenure that coincided with his single Broadway appearance. In 1944, Feld performed in Seven Lively Arts, the Cole Porter revue that ran on Broadway that year. Following his time with Goodman, he worked with Eddie Condon in 1946 and subsequently with bandleaders Bobby Hackett and Billy Butterfield.

As a leader, Feld recorded Jazz Goes to B'Way for Kapp in 1955. His sideman credits include sessions with Ella Fitzgerald on The First Lady of Song (Decca, 1958), Benny Goodman on Fletcher Henderson Arrangement (Columbia, 1953) and Goodman On the Air (Nostalgia, 1979), Bobby Hackett on Creole Cookin' (Verve, 1967), Bill Harris on Bill Harris Herd (Norgran, 1956), Rosa Rio on Plays Hits from My Fair Lady and Gigi (Vox, 1959), Alec Templeton on Smart Alec (ABC-Paramount, 1956), and the World's Greatest Jazz Band on two Project 3 releases from 1969. He also appeared on The Johnny Smith Stan Getz Years (Roulette, 1978) alongside Johnny Smith and Stan Getz.

In 1960, Feld relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he worked with Peanuts Hucko's quintet. He died on March 28, 1971, at the age of 55, while attempting to fight a fire at his Denver home.
