About
Mildred Holland (April 9, 1869 – January 27, 1944) was an American actress born in Chicago, Illinois, whose stage career spanned more than 35 years. She studied under Augustin Daly at the Chicago Conservatory before making her professional debut in 1890 at Hermann's Bleeker Hall in New York.
Much of Holland's career was built in repertory theatre, where she also worked as a translator, rendering French plays into English for her troupe's productions. She additionally performed in vaudeville. Her Broadway career extended from 1911 to 1927 and encompassed both acting and directing.
In 1911, Holland took on a dual role as director and performer in two Broadway productions: The Lily and the Prince and The Triumph of an Empress. That same year she appeared as an actress in Camille. Her final Broadway credit came in 1927 with the musical Tales of Rigo. Holland made her film debut in 1912 in the short Two Old Pals, alongside Otto Breitkreutz.
Beyond her performing work, Holland held leadership positions in several professional organizations. She served as president of the Actors' Church Alliance and as vice president of the Professional Women's League. Holland was married to Edward C. White. She died on January 27, 1944, in New York City at the age of 74.
