About
Mildred Clinton (November 2, 1914 – December 18, 2010) was an American actress born in Brooklyn, New York City, whose career spanned theater, film, television, and radio across several decades.
Clinton's Broadway work ran from 1954 to 1969. She appeared in a minor role in the 1954–1955 production of Quadrille, and later took on the role of Miss Sullivan in The Wrong Way Light Bulb in 1969. Her first film credit came in 1958 with The Trapp Family in America. She subsequently appeared in Sidney Lumet's Serpico (1973), playing the mother of the title character, Frank Serpico, who was portrayed by Al Pacino. Three years later, Clinton took a lead role in the low-budget horror film Alice, Sweet Alice (1976).
Beyond film and stage, Clinton maintained an active presence in other media. She performed in radio plays for CBS Radio Mystery Theater and held a recurring role as Judge Sussman on the soap opera The Edge of Night from 1975 to 1976. Earlier in her television career, she hosted a one-woman show titled One Woman's Experience, which debuted on WABD in New York City on October 8, 1952.
In the later phase of her career, Clinton appeared in three films directed by Spike Lee: Crooklyn (1994), Summer of Sam (1999), and Bamboozled (2000), the last of which served as her final film credit. Clinton died on December 18, 2010, in New York City.
