Michel Galabru

Michel Louis Edmond Galabru, born on 27 October 1922 and died on 4 January 2016, was a French actor whose career spanned stage and screen across several decades. He accumulated credits in more than 250 films and brought his work to Broadway in 1955, where he appeared in productions of Arlequin Poli par l'Amour and Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.

On screen, Galabru collaborated with a range of prominent directors, including Bertrand Blier, Costa-Gavras, Luc Besson on Subway, and Jean-Luc Godard. Among his most recognized film work was a sustained partnership with Louis de Funès, with whom he appeared in Le gendarme de Saint-Tropez, Le gendarme se marie, Le gendarme et les extra-terrestres, Le gendarme en balade, Le gendarme à New York, Le gendarme et les gendarmettes, Le petit baigneur, L'avare, and Jo. He also appeared alongside Michel Serrault in Nous irons à Deauville.

Galabru's collaborations extended to actors Ugo Tognazzi and Michel Serrault in La Cage aux Folles, La Cage aux Folles II, and La Cage aux Folles 3: The Wedding, as well as Le viager with Serrault.

In 1977, Galabru received the César Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Joseph Bouvier in Bertrand Tavernier's The Judge and the Assassin.
