Michael Genet, born August 25, 1958, is an American actor and screenwriter whose career spans Broadway, film, and television.
On Broadway, Genet performed across more than three decades, from 1989 to 2021. His stage credits include Lestat, Wicked, Choir Boy, and Chicken & Biscuits, among other productions.
Genet's screenwriting work includes two feature films. He co-wrote She Hate Me (2004) with director Spike Lee, and also appeared in the film as the older brother of the protagonist, a role played by Anthony Mackie. Two years earlier, he had acted in another Lee film, 25th Hour (2002). His second produced screenplay, Talk to Me (2007), was directed by Kasi Lemmons and co-written with Rick Famuyiwa.
On television, Genet has guest starred in several series produced in the New York City area, including The Equalizer, New York Undercover, Ugly Betty, and multiple entries in the Law & Order franchise: Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also appeared in the daytime soap operas As the World Turns and One Life to Live.
