Michael Gaston is an American actor from Walnut Creek, California, whose career spans Broadway, film, and television. He began his professional work in 1990 with an off-Broadway production of The Taming of the Shrew and has continued to take on stage roles across several decades, including a 1996 off-Broadway production of Henry V and a 2018 off-Broadway production of I Was Most Alive With You.
Gaston's Broadway career ran from 1991 to 2013 and included productions of Lost in Yonkers, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg in 2003, and Lucky Guy in 2013.
On screen, Gaston has appeared in more than twenty films. His credits include The Crucible, Ransom, Cop Land, Sudden Death, Double Jeopardy, Thirteen Days, Bless the Child, High Crimes, Sugar, Body of Lies, and Bridge of Spies. He portrayed General Tommy Franks in the film W.
Gaston has also built an extensive television career. He appeared in the first episode of The Sopranos as Alex Mahaffey, a compulsive gambler in conflict with Tony Soprano, and went on to play agent Quinn in Prison Break and Gray Anderson in the CBS drama Jericho. He held a recurring role in The Mentalist as CBI Director Gale Bertram. Additional television credits include The West Wing, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Practice, 24, and Fringe.
Gaston has two children. In October 2017, he publicly described an incident from 1992 in which the director of a production he was appearing in groped him during a rehearsal.
