About
Michael Carmine (March 6, 1959 – October 14, 1989) was an American actor born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. He completed his secondary education at the High School of Performing Arts at age sixteen before pursuing formal training at the California Institute of the Arts.
Carmine's screen career began with an uncredited appearance in the 1977 disaster film Rollercoaster, followed by his first speaking role on the television series Hill Street Blues in 1982. A small part in Brian De Palma's Scarface came the following year, and his role as Snake in Michael Mann's Miami Vice subsequently led to his first major film credit in Mann's Band of the Hand (1986), directed by Paul Michael Glaser. He continued in supporting film roles with Batteries Not Included (1987) and Leviathan (1989). His final screen appearance was in Longtime Companion (1989), in which he portrayed an AIDS patient.
On stage, Carmine performed in Reinaldo Povod's Cuba and His Teddy Bear in both its Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, with his Broadway appearance taking place in 1986. He also took on the role of Papo in Povod's La Puta Vida.
Carmine died of AIDS on October 14, 1989, at the age of thirty.
