Michael Beint

Michael Beint is an English retired actor, born on 17 August 1925, who built a career spanning stage, television, and film across several decades. He made his Broadway appearance in 1974, performing in As You Like It.

Beint began in amateur theatre before spending four years working in repertory. His West End work included Colin Morris's You Prove It and Rule of Three, a triple bill of plays by Agatha Christie. He holds the distinction of being the first professional actor to portray Sir Thomas More in the play of that name at London Theatre Centre for the Advance Players Association, a production directed by John Neville. Beint subsequently developed a long association with the National Theatre, where his work included serving as understudy to Paul Scofield in Peter Shaffer's Amadeus, an experience that sparked a lasting interest in Mozart.

His early screen appearances went uncredited, with his first credited television roles arriving in the latter half of the 1950s. Among the notable productions in which he appeared were Adam Adamant Lives!, Coronation Street, Benny Hill, and Poirot. His film credits include Night of the Prowler (1962), The Hi-Jackers (1963), and Elizabeth (1998). His final screen credit came in 2010 with the medical drama series Casualty.

Beint married Doreen Williams in 1948, and they remained together until her death in 2025. The couple had five children, all of whom entered show business in some capacity. He is the grandfather of actor Lyndon Ogbourne.
