About
Mia Dillon is an American actress born on July 9, 1955, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, whose Broadway career spanned from 1974 to 2002. Her family relocated to the Philadelphia area during her childhood, and by the age of ten she had set her sights on a career in acting. She pursued that goal through formal training at Penn State, then commuted to New York to audition for low- or no-pay showcase productions while supporting herself through work as a waitress, an office temp, and a ticket order taker for the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Dillon's early professional work included an Off-Broadway engagement as an understudy in The Shortchanged Review, which ran at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in 1976. The following year she made her Broadway debut understudying the roles of Jill Mason and the Nurse in Peter Shaffer's Equus. She went on to star in The Miser and Crimes of the Heart and appeared in Da, Hay Fever, and Once a Catholic, among other Broadway productions. Additional theater credits include Agnes of God, The Corn is Green, Come Back Little Sheba, Three Sisters, and Our Town. In 1985 she participated in a staged reading of the novel Breaker Boys at Pennsylvania's Showcase Theatre.
Dillon received two major acting nominations for her Broadway work. Her performance in Once a Catholic earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play in 1980, and her work in Crimes of the Heart brought her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1982.
Her screen work encompasses both film and television. Film credits include The Money Pit, A Shock to the System, Gods and Generals, and Duane Hopwood. On television, she appeared in the reunion film Mary and Rhoda and in guest roles across three separate series within the Law & Order franchise. She was also featured in the Disney Channel television film Lots of Luck, which starred Annette Funicello and Martin Mull.
In 1999, Dillon married actor Keir Dullea.
