About
Maxwell Shaw (21 February 1929 – 21 August 1985) was a London-born actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television across several decades. He is primarily remembered for his television work, though he also accumulated a substantial body of credits in feature films from the 1950s through the early 1970s.
Shaw's film career began in the mid-1950s. In 1956 he appeared in David Copperfield as Uriah Heep, and in 1958 he took the role of the Sheikh in No Time to Die. Later film work included the role of Mr. Mantalini in a 1968 adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby, Hackett in The Oblong Box (1969), Isaac List in Mister Quilp (1975), Fadinard in The Incredible Sarah (1976), and a role in the BBC series Father Brown as Ashley in 1974.
On television, Shaw appeared in BBC Sunday-Night Theatre as early as 1950.
