About
Max Algop Maxudian (12 June 1881 – 20 July 1976) was a French stage and film actor of Armenian descent, born in Smyrna in the Ottoman Empire. In 1893, at the age of twelve, he emigrated to France with his family. He went on to establish himself as a prominent theatrical figure in his adopted country, performing at notable venues including the Odéon and the Grand Guignol.
Maxudian's stage career extended to Broadway, where he appeared in 1910 in a series of productions. His Broadway credits included La Samaritaine, Sapho, La Beffa, La Tosca, and La Femme X, among other productions.
Alongside his theater work, Maxudian built a substantial career in film spanning several decades. His screen appearances began with Les Amours de la reine Élisabeth in 1912 and continued through productions including La Roue (1923), Napoléon (1927), and Three Waltzes (1938). Later film credits included Devil in the Flesh (1947), Memories Are Not for Sale (1948), and Death Threat (1950).
Maxudian died on 20 July 1976 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France, at the age of 95.
