About
Max M. Dill (September 15, 1876 – November 21, 1949) was an American vaudeville comedian and film actor born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is best known as one half of the vaudeville duo Kolb and Dill, in which he partnered with Clarence Kolb.
Dill made his Broadway appearance in 1908, performing in Lonesome Town. His stage work was part of a broader career in popular entertainment that spanned vaudeville and, later, motion pictures.
At the age of 39, Dill transitioned to film, appearing in a series of pictures between 1916 and 1917. His screen work began in 1916 with several productions, including Bluff, The Three Pals, A Million for Mary, and Peck o' Pickles, in which he played a character named Adolph Busch. That same year he appeared in a film adaptation of Lonesome Town, playing a character named Mike. Kolb appeared alongside Dill in a number of these productions. Dill's final film was Beloved Rogues in 1917, in which he played Mike Amsterdammer opposite actor Harry von Meter. He also appeared in Glory in 1917, playing Mike Plotts. His film appearances concluded that year, though he lived for more than three decades afterward. Two Flaming Youths, released in 1927, also lists Dill in its cast. Dill died on November 21, 1949.
