Matthew Beard

Matthew Beard is an English actor and model born on 25 March 1989 in London. He attended King Ecgbert School in Sheffield, where he earned As in his A-Level subjects in 2007, before going on to study English and French literature at the University of York.

Beard entered the film industry in 2007 with a role as teenage Blake in the drama And When Did You Last See Your Father?, a performance that earned him a nomination for Best Newcomer at both the British Independent Film Awards and the Evening Standard British Film Awards. Screen International also recognized him that year, selecting him as a Star of Tomorrow and a Trailblazer at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He went on to appear in An Education in 2009, The Imitation Game in 2014, and The Party's Just Beginning in 2018.

On stage, Beard joined Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan in David Hare's play Skylight in 2015, performing in both the West End and on Broadway. His Broadway appearance in Skylight earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play. In 2018, he played Edmund Tyrone in a revival of Long Day's Journey into Night, which ran in the West End and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Beard's television work includes the role of Max Lieberman in the BBC series Vienna Blood, which ran from 2019 to 2024, and Deputy Alan Lewis in the HBO series Avenue 5 in 2020. Alongside his acting career, he has worked as a model, representing the English clothing label Burberry in 2011 and Prada in 2015.
