About

Mary-Pat Green (September 25, 1951 – September 9, 2024) was an American actress whose career spanned Broadway, television, and film. She was active on Broadway between 1972 and 1979, and her work in theatre and television continued for decades beyond that period.

Green's Broadway credits included the original cast of Sweeney Todd, the 1974 revival of Candide, and Godspell. Away from Broadway, she accumulated extensive stage experience, most notably performing the role of Reverend Mother in Nunsense more than 1,500 times. In 1989, she took on the role of Miss Hannigan in a production of Annie at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City. Her regional theatre work also included the 1996 world premiere of Claudia Allen's Hannah Free at Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago, in which she played the title role. That performance was reviewed by Richard Christiansen of the Chicago Tribune, who described her work as admirably acted. In 2002, Green played Lorena Hickok in Michael John LaChiusa's musical First Lady Suite.

On television, Green was best known for her recurring role as Odessa on the series Any Day Now. She also appeared as a guest on a wide range of television programs, including Friends, The West Wing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, NYPD Blue, Ally McBeal, Desperate Housewives, Cold Case, Married with Children, Melrose Place, Murder She Wrote, Home Improvement, My Name Is Earl, Saving Grace, Eli Stone, The Drew Carey Show, Step by Step, Millennium, The Middle, Anger Management, and Mom, among others.

Green died on September 9, 2024, at the age of 72, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
